Throughout Matt’s 20 years experience in the hospitality industry he has had many accolades, from winner of the Good Food Guide Sommelier of the year 2011, along with multiple wine list awards, to being a Len Evans Scholar, Group Sommelier for the Solotel Group and Plumm Glassware Ambassador. Matt’s authentic approach to wine enables him to deliver a unique experience for clients and customers.
Matt’s career highlights include working alongside celebrity chef Matt Moran from the grass roots at Aria Sydney as well as key venues within the Solotel Group for over 15 years including North Bondi Fish and Chiswick. In his current role as Group Wine Ambassador and Resident Sommelier at Joval, he lives and breathes the wine experience for all wine lovers to enjoy. Many say it’s Matt’s creativity and flair for wine, passion for culture and communication, combined with a gift for delivering strong education, that holds him in high regard for being a key industry influencer.
As a wine voice you can trust, Matt has presented and hosted at many key wine events including those held at KPMG, Gilbert & Tobin, Accor Hotels, Torrens University and Solotel Hospitality Group. He has also been part of high profile wine panels for Sommelier's Australia, Wine Pilot and at the Italian Food and Wine Festivals. Matt has most recently worked with the CIVP to help promote Provence Rose in Australia and worked with key Australian chefs to match a vast array of dishes to these wines.
Matt is an accredited teacher for WSET level 1 and 2 Award in Wines. He completed the Court of Masters Sommeliers Certified Sommelier Examination in 2009 and is an active wine show judge across Australia. Matt has completed WSET level 3 and is currently a Diploma student.
In 2015 he was awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial held annually in the Hunter Valley which legendary wine writer James Halliday refers to as the 'most exclusive wine school in the world'. Matt was a regular host for the Solotel Hospitality events program across all venues when he was in his previous role of Group Sommelier.
Matt is an experienced as a keynote speaker, educator and has a fresh and approachable take on wine. Matt is featured as one of the NSW wine judges on the YouTube series called ‘Battle of Wines’ in 2021 and 2018.
