Thomas Robinson's journey spans from the vibrant restaurants of Adelaide to immersive experiences in kitchens around the world. From the bustling scenes of Japan to the culinary hubs of Sydney, Robinson's global odyssey has led him back to the serene vineyards of South Australia, where he now crafts exceptional dining experiences at The Lane Vineyard.
Robinson’s career began in Adelaide, where, after leaving university at the age of 20, he pivoted away from a science degree to follow his true passion: food. Encouraged by his father, he enrolled in TAFE, laying the groundwork for a career that would take him far beyond the city's borders.
His initial foray into international cuisine led him to Japan for what was meant to be a brief TAFE exchange. However, fate intervened, compelling him to immerse himself in Japan's hospitality sector for an unexpected two-year sojourn. This experience became a transformative chapter, kindling a deep appreciation for the intricate art of fine dining.
Returning to Australia, Robinson found himself at Auge, where he worked his way up through the ranks, ultimately attaining the position of Head Chef. It was here that he discovered his love for the restaurant environment and built connections with a community of like-minded chefs.
Venturing beyond Adelaide, Robinson explored different culinary landscapes, from Celsius to d'Artagnan, and even opening Rascal burger shops in collaboration with long-time friend Timothy Montgomery. A significant chapter unfolded in Sydney at Four in Hand, where he worked alongside Colin Fassnidge, refining and solidifying his culinary style.
The journey brought Robinson back to Adelaide, drawn by the familiar call of home. Today, at The Lane Vineyard, he orchestrates a kitchen alongside Senior Sous Chef Cameron Ahl, cultivating an environment that is both passionate and supportive. As the Head Chef at The Lane Vineyard, Robinson's mission is clear: to craft a menu that showcases the seamless harmony between food and wine, providing a serene and relaxed space for guests to enjoy intriguing and thoughtful food and wine pairings.
Robinson's story is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the culinary craft, taking him from Adelaide to Japan and back again, ultimately finding his place in the heart of South Australia's wine country at The Lane Vineyard.
